‘Cell One’ to be launched on Oct 19

The much delayed cellular phone services of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), ‘Cell one’ will be lau-nched by Prime Minister A B Vajpayee in Lucknow on October 19.

Speaking to reporters, Union Communications and Information Technology Minister Pramod Mahajan said the cellular services would be launched from Bheed, the most backward district of the country, in Maharashtra on October 21.
He said the mobile services would cover the country in phases, barring North Eastern states and Jammu and Kashmir, by October 31. The total country coverage would be attained by Independence Day next year, he added. Questioned about the pricing, he said BSNL would offer the most competitive price.
