Chekuthan Vedamothunnu!

Of late we were giving scant attention to the meaningless utterances emanating from the so called charitable society called BSNLEA. Since they have gone down  to such abysmal depths as to tarnish  the name of our departed comrade James Paul we can no longer be silent.

Having  engineered a split in TESA sitting in front of the photograph of  that apostle of  Telecom Engineers’ Unity  they are now engaged in defiling  his name. They are against all the values and principles he had stood for. Even when he was defeated in an election he never dreamt of forming a splinter group and becoming General Secretary. He cherished values like democracy and freedom of opinion, for he was a true trade union leader who valued welfare of the members above all. It seems these new prophets of engineers’ unity get some sinister pleasure by  reducing him to the stature of a group leader. We have only one request to the BSNLEA leaders   kindly spare him. Let him rest in peace.

Many of our members may not be aware that we were paying Rs.18000/- per year as rental for that small room  for an  average of 6 to 8 meetings per year. More than 30 members could not be conveniently seated in this room. Every meeting in that congested room was an ordeal for the members.  Whenever a sent off or some other party had to be arranged we had to  find other halls. At a time when halls like YMCA are available for less than Rs.500/- for a meeting people with normal intelligence can understand the folly of retaining that ‘hole’. General body of TESA therefore decided to vacate the same. It is for us TESA members to decide where to meet and when to meet. We don’t like to be advised by outsiders in such matters. They complain that we have sold out the association office. Dear members let us assure you that we have not sold out anything belonging to the branch no chair, no bench nor the photo of a man whose memory we hold  close to our heart. BSNLEA can but use such filthy language just because selling and buying is one art they are adept at. They tried in vain to sell off the Ernakulam Branch en block to one scrap merchant. Having failed in their nefarious designs now they are engaged in mudslinging.

We expect the deserter who is still continuing as the building committee chairman to submit the accounts and step down decently, since you no longer represent TESA. Then it is for TESA and TEOA to complete the common project. It is where we have deposited the fruits of our labor. We would then have a decent meeting place and a place to honor the memories of  our departed leaders.

Many of us may not be aware that our erstwhile leaders were not paying subscription for several months nor were they sending CHQ quota. Many of them have not even paid share of send off parties. Many of them have not made over the subscription amount they have collected. After months of scheming when they were finally out of the organization  they saw it to that nothing was left behind in the form of ‘valuable’ records. Even funds for endowments donated by kith and kin of  departed comrades were deposited in personal accounts. Now they are trying their best to prevent  continuation of these endowments by spreading untruths.

For more than 3 months BSNLEA shared  the room but they didn’t feel like sharing the rent. If it was so dear to them they could have held it paying the rent. Instead they are trying to rake up sentiments by shedding crocodile tears.  But they have grossly underestimated the intelligence level of  our general membership. We are confident that the general membership will dismiss this melodrama enacted by BSNLEA   with due contempt.
